I was commissioned by Automotive Testing Technology International to write a preview of the upcoming third season of Formula E. The editor was interested in how the sport’s pre-season testing phase had been used to shape the next generation of race cars.
I secured interviews with some truly fascinating spokespeople: Vincent Gaillardot, project leader at reigning champion team Renault e.Dams; Vinit Patel, chief engineer at Mahindra Racing; and Craig Wilson, race director for Panasonic Jaguar Racing.
I also sought out comment from Formula E tyre supplier Michelin, interviewing the company’s motorsport director, Serge Grisin.
Key quote
“It’s a great formula for engineers; like motor racing in the heyday of the 60s or 70s”
Vinit Patel, chief engineer, Mahindra Racing
