Lem Bingley’s portfolio

For several years I was responsible for content strategy and usability across a wide variety of websites including AccountancyAge.com, BJP-online.com, Computeractive.co.uk, Computing.co.uk, FinancialDirector.co.uk, InsuranceAge.co.uk, LegalWeek.com, PostOnline.co.uk, TheActuary.com and V3.co.uk.

In 2007 I led the launch of BusinessGreen – establishing the business case, securing funding, developing the editorial mission and designing the original branding and website.

In 2008 I planned and oversaw all editorial and technical aspects of rebranding VNUnet.com as V3.co.uk, including design work, search-engine optimisation, redirect strategies and visitor communications, successfully minimising the loss of traffic.

In 2010 I managed the successful migration of six online brands from an old platform to a new CMS without any negative impact on traffic or Google standing, while delivering major improvements in the user experience. The six sites involved were AccountancyAge.com, BusinessGreen.com, ChannelWeb.co.uk, Computing.co.uk, FinancialDirector.co.uk and V3.co.uk.

In my spare time I launched two blogs: GreenMotor.co.uk in 2005 and City Car News in 2011. In late 2011 I designed and coded a personal website and blog for businessman Nelson Wootton.

While working for Incisive Media I oversaw editorial and design work across a number of titles in both B2B and consumer markets.

In 2008 I led work on modernising Computing magazine. The publication was resized into a more compact format, a new logo and design theme was established, and the editorial content was reshaped to better complement the companion Computing.co.uk website.

In 2009 I worked with the CRN team to overhaul its presence in print, creating a less regimented editorial format designed to free up the editorial team so that more time could be spent on the website and social media. As well as new page layouts and a new flatplan, new branding was established to better tie together the print, online and events businesses.

In 2010 I oversaw work on a major facelift of Financial Director magazine. Following audience research the content was refocused on leadership rather than compliance issues, while the magazine itself was made smaller and the design more modern.

In 2011 I supervised major redesigns of Post Magazine and Insurance Age, respectively weekly and monthly business publications in the insurance market. In both cases I worked closely with the editors and editor in chief on planning, audience research and design briefs, and subsequently guiding decision making on page designs, cover formats and mastheads.

In 2011 I was part of the team that developed Incisive Media’s first bespoke iPad edition, for the British Journal of Photography. The first edition of the BJP app was an instant success, bringing many thousands of new customers to the brand and quickly earning a five-star rating in the Apple store.

I also contributed to the design and core concept of iPad apps for CRN, Legal Week, Insurance Age and Accountancy Age.
